Canada E Visa

Visa Waiver Program: All You Need to Know

New legislation has made it possible to apply for an eTA or Electronic Travel Authorization by completing an application form online, but only if you are flying into the country, not by any other means of transport.

There are certain conditions that need to be fulfilled, but this new process certainly speeds up the application time and is relatively inexpensive. The eTA is linked to your passport electronically. You need to be in possession of an eTA in order to board your flight to Canada. Basically, visa-exempt foreign nationals need a Canada eTA to either fly into the country or to transit through.

Exceptions include citizens of the United States and travellers with valid Canadian visas. You cannot apply for an eTA if you are a Canadian citizen, and that includes dual citizens and permanent residents.

In order to apply to travel to Canada without visa using the eTA system, you would need the following: a valid passport, a credit card – and this can be American Express, MasterCard or Visa, or pre-paid American Express, MasterCard or Visa, a debit card – JCB, Interac or Visa Debit – and an email address.

The authorization takes minutes to approve and is valid for up to five years. There are no age exceptions for eTA authorization. The application asks the normal personal questions, your identity – full name, date of birth, nationality, address passport details, occupations and financial status and credit card information.

This is going to make it much quicker, cheaper and easier to travel to Canada, and is seen as a boon to tourism and to business travel. An e visa Canada should be applied for a few weeks in advance, to ensure entry.
